The Summit Fever Trap

"I'm almost there, I can push through." -> Famous Last Words.

Mandatory Retreat Conditions

1. The Weather Turn

  • Indicator: Barometer drops rapidly. Sky turns purple/black. Wind warnings.
  • Action: If you are not within 2 minutes of a Bivouac, Descend to the previous one. Do not try to race the storm upwards unless the summit is literally in sight.

2. Critical Injury

  • Indicator: Aava has a broken limb or severe bleed.
  • Effect: Max Health/Stamina capped at 20-30%.
  • Action: You cannot climb hard pitches. Retreat to Bivouac, heal, or restart the day.

3. Resource Collapse

  • Indicator: 0 Food, 0 Water, 0 Pitons.
  • Action: You cannot survive the next section.
    • Option A: Descend to scavenge.
    • Option B: Climbot scavenging run (send the bot down).

How to Retreat

  1. Downclimbing: Harder than climbing up because you can't see footholds easily. Use Camera mode!
  2. Rappelling: If you have a permanent anchor/piton ring, you can rappel quickly.
  3. The "Tactical Death": Not recommended for purists. If you have a recent Bivouac save, sometimes reloading is better than limping on.

Rule of Thumb

If you are asking "Should I turn back?", the answer is usually Yes.
